Got Questions?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about beauty supply store fixtures, shelving, and ordering from DISPLAYARAMA.

What types of fixtures work best for beauty supply stores?+
Beauty supply stores typically rely on a combination of gondola shelving for high-volume product display in aisles, slatwall panels along walls for flexible hanging displays (hooks, shelves, faceouts), and a professional checkout counter for the front of the store. Slatwall accessories like hooks, baskets, and shelf brackets let you maximize every inch of wall space.
What is gondola shelving and why do beauty supply stores use it?+
Gondola shelving is a freestanding steel shelving system that organizes products in aisles — it's the industry standard for retail stores. Wall gondola units sit against a wall for single-sided display, while double-sided gondola units stand in the middle of your floor for two-sided access. Shelves are fully adjustable to accommodate everything from travel-size items to large haircare bottles.
What colors does slatwall come in for beauty supply stores?+
Our slatwall panels are available in a wide range of finishes including white, black, maple, cherry, and more. White is extremely popular for beauty supply stores because it makes product colors pop and creates a clean, professional look. Black gives a sleek, upscale feel. We also offer custom slatwall panels in specialty finishes to match your store's branding.
What slatwall accessories do beauty supply stores typically use?+
The most commonly used slatwall accessories in beauty supply stores include single and double hooks for hanging packaged products, wire baskets for loose items, glass and acrylic shelves for premium product displays, faceouts for hanging items at an angle, and hangrails with brackets for hair extension and wig displays.
How much does slatwall hold in a beauty supply store?+
Standard MDF slatwall holds 30 lbs per groove without aluminum inserts. With aluminum inserts installed in the grooves, that increases to 100 lbs per groove — more than enough for even your heaviest bottles, styling tools, and packaged goods. For heavier displays, we recommend ordering slatwall with aluminum inserts.
Can I get custom slatwall panels to match my store's look?+
Yes — our custom slatwall panels are available in a variety of specialty finishes, textures, and colors beyond our standard lineup. Whether you want a specific shade to match your store's color palette or a unique texture for a premium feel, we can accommodate custom orders. Call us at 1-800-292-5227 to discuss your options.
Do you offer bulk discounts for beauty supply store setups?+
Yes — 4 or more units qualify for bulk pricing on gondola shelving and display cases. For slatwall panels, bulk pricing applies to orders of 10 or more 4×8 panels. The more you order, the more you save. Fill out the bulk pricing form or call us at 1-800-292-5227 for a custom quote on your full store setup.
What if my fixtures arrive damaged?+
We guarantee damage-free shipping — but if something does arrive damaged, we replace it at no cost to you. Take photographs of any damage, note it on the delivery receipt, and send us the photos. We file the freight claim and ship your replacement. You are never responsible for carrier damage on DISPLAYARAMA orders.
What heights are gondola shelving units available in?+
We stock gondola shelving in standard heights of 48", 54", 60", 72", and 84". Standard widths are 36" or 48". Most beauty supply stores use 60"–72" height wall gondolas for perimeter display and 54"–60" double-sided gondolas in aisles to maintain sightlines across the floor.
What's the difference between wall and double-sided gondola?+
Wall gondola is a single-sided unit designed to sit against a wall — it displays products on one side only. Double-sided gondola is freestanding and displays products on both sides, making it ideal for creating product aisles in the center of your floor. Both use the same adjustable shelf system.
How much weight can gondola shelving hold?+
Our heavy-duty steel gondola shelving typically supports 200–400 lbs per shelf when properly installed. This is more than sufficient for any beauty supply product load, including heavy shampoos, conditioners, styling equipment, and bulk packaged goods.
How long does gondola shelving take to assemble?+
Assembly typically takes 30–90 minutes per unit with two people. The first unit always takes the longest — once you've done one, subsequent units go significantly faster. Assembly videos are available above in the Setup Guides section.
Can gondola shelves be reconfigured after setup?+
Yes — our gondola shelving features fully adjustable shelves that can be repositioned at any time without tools. This lets you adapt your layout to seasonal merchandise, new product lines, or changing store needs without buying new fixtures.
What are gondola end caps and should I add them?+
End caps are units that cap the ends of your gondola runs, creating additional display space and high-visibility merchandising opportunities. In beauty supply stores, end caps are great for promotions, new arrivals, or high-margin impulse items that shoppers see when they turn each aisle corner.
What are the standard slatwall panel dimensions?+
Standard slatwall panels are 4'×8' (48"×96") and ¾" thick. We also stock 4'×4' panels for smaller wall sections or single-person installations. Both sizes use the same accessories — hooks, shelves, and baskets are fully interchangeable.
What is the slat spacing — 3" or 6"?+
3" slat spacing is standard and gives you the most flexibility for accessory placement. 6" slat spacing has a cleaner, more modern look (sometimes called a "shiplap" look) and is popular in upscale boutique-style beauty supply stores. Both sizes use the same accessories — they're fully compatible.
How do I install slatwall panels?+
Installation requires 2" self-tapping screws for wood or metal studs, or 3" tapcons for concrete walls. Use a minimum of 28 screws per 4'×8' sheet. Do not remove aluminum inserts before installing — drill directly through them. Each sheet takes 20–60 minutes. Check the setup video above for a full walkthrough. We also offer installation nationwide — call us for a quote.
Can slatwall panels be cut to a custom size?+
Yes — slatwall can be cut to size using a circular saw or table saw with a fine-toothed blade. Mark your cut lines on painter's tape to prevent chipping. Slatwall can also be cut for electrical outlets using a jigsaw or keyhole saw. Mark the outlet position on painter's tape before cutting. (DISPLAYARAMA ONLY PROVIDES SLATWALL IN 4x4 and 4x8 SIZES)
Will standard pegboard hooks work on slatwall?+
No — pegboard hooks are not compatible with slatwall. Slatwall requires dedicated slatwall accessories designed to slide into the grooves. Our hooks, shelves, baskets, and faceouts are all purpose-built for slatwall and will slide in securely, hang straight, and not wobble.
How are slatwall panels delivered?+
Slatwall panels are delivered by freight carrier. The driver will call to schedule a delivery appointment so you know exactly when to expect them. Note: 4'×8' panels cannot use a liftgate and must be manually offloaded one at a time by two people. 4'×4' panels can use a liftgate for easier unloading.
How do I get bulk pricing for my beauty supply store?+
Fill out our bulk pricing form or call us directly at 1-800-292-5227. We answer instantly — no voicemail, no waiting. Bulk pricing starts at 4+ units on gondola shelving and display cases, and 10+ panels for slatwall.
Do you ship to my location?+
Yes — we ship anywhere in the contiguous United States and Canada. All shipments include free delivery appointments so you know exactly when your order arrives. Every order ships with free protective crating to ensure your fixtures arrive in perfect condition.
Can fixtures be delivered pre-assembled?+
Yes — assembled delivery is available for an additional fee. We assemble every unit, palletize and crate it, and ship it ready for immediate placement on your floor. This option costs more to ship due to size and weight, but saves significant setup time — especially for larger store buildouts.
Will you match a competitor's price?+
Yes — call us at 1-800-292-5227 with the competitor's name and price. We evaluate the full cost (including shipping) and beat it. We've been doing this since 1980 and we stand behind our pricing.
What happens if something arrives damaged?+
If anything arrives damaged, we replace it at no cost. For visible damage: get an Exception Number from the driver, photograph the damage, and note it on the delivery receipt. For hidden damage discovered after delivery: call us immediately. Send us photos and we handle the freight claim and replacement shipment.
